Anoop Kumar Srivastava

Anoop Kumar Srivastava is an environmentalist and nature lover. A 1981 batch officer, he retired from Indian Administrative Service (IAS) on 31-08-2018. Before retirement, on 5th June 2018, he had attended a programme at Central Park, Connaught Place, New Delhi organised on the World Environment Day. The theme of the programme was "Beat Plastic Pollution". The programme was anchored by Dia Mirza, a goodwill ambassador of UN Environment and guest speakers were Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudevan and Erik Solheim, CEO, UN Environment. It is on this occasion that Shri Srivastava visualised the magnitude of pollution caused by indiscriminate use of single-use plastics and enormous environmental damage it is causing. He instantly decided to form an NGO to carry out a vigorous campaign against plastic pollution in India. He approached his friends, colleagues and other contacts to ascertain their willingness to join the organisation and movement. He organised the first meeting of like-minded and willing persons on 1st September 2018. With time, the numbers grew and subsequently, this group of willing persons was incorporated as a not-for-profit company under Section 8 of the Companies Act on 19th February 2019.
Shri Srivastava has served in several posts under the State Government of Meghalaya and the Government of India. He is experienced in a wide spectrum of sectors such as Agriculture, Health & Family Welfare, Public Health Engineering, Transport, Tourism, Industry, Power, Information Technology, Social Welfare, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary & Cooperation, etc. At centre he has worked in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance (Revenue), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affair. He has held positions of Secretary (Border Management), Ministry of Home Affairs; Secretary (Official Language), Ministry of Home Affairs; and Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs in Government of India immediately before retirement.
Shri Srivastava received the prestigious Web Ratna Award (Platinum Icon) in the year 2009 in the Category "National Portal Coordinator".
His hobbies include photography particularly of flowers. He has a collection of hundreds of photographs of flowers taken by him.
