Amitav belongs to 1990 batch of Indian Revenue Service. He is a Post Graduate from Delhi University and also has a Law degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Laws from NALSAR University, Hyderabad. He has held diverse positions within Income Tax Department. Currently he is posted as Principal Director (Investigation), Mumbai. He has also been on deputation to Financial Intelligence Unit of India. He has done extensive research on Crypto-currencies during post demonetization period and has authored a book on Investigation of Bitcoin Transaction for officers posted in Investigation Wing of ITD. He loves to sing Ghazals and old songs.
